Post 1 Omaha
Sons of the American Legion
Hello,
Happy New Year, we had a good year at the post and look forward to enjoying another with everyone.
We are meeting every month planning our upcoming events and would appreciate any S.A.L. members to attend the meetings and help in planning events and recruiting new members. We are the descendants of men that have given their service to our country and we can only do our best to honor them by supporting other veterans.

The Legion post 1 volunteers met Monday December 11th at 6:30 PM at the V.A. Hospital.
Those Present were, Geri Thomas, Annette Himelick and her son Jackson, and Darwin Mohr.
We served quite a few cans of pop and oatmeal cream pie cookies to the patients. Floors were a little full. Some of the patients could not have pop. ICU had a few patients.
Next V.A. Hospital visit will be Monday January 8th at 6:30 PM at the ER side. Please be there by 6:15 pm so we can start at 6:30 pm.

Happy 2024!!! Promise yourself you will spend a little less time watching (or listening!) to the news in the coming year! Let's see if doing this will enable us all to smile more often and worry less! The last 3 months of 2023 have been often so sad. We miss the Legion friends who have passed away, the project plans for veterans that remind us of uncompleted work still to be done, good times at the Post Home that will be only memories for us now. A new year dawns with the ideas we all have of new resolutions that will bring hope for the contributions we can make for a more peaceful life and a more peaceful world. Don't let it all seem too hopeless. God's in His Heaven, all will be right with the world.
A quick review of the past month is in order! NEW VISIONS received Chicken Alfredo and mashed potatoes in December, VICTORY APARTMENTS ! and 2 received food from our food drive AND 100 cases of 16 0z. bottled water from Hills Bros. Trucking Co. We also delivered (thanks to Fred and Mary Lee Tisdale) individually wrapped snacks to FISHER HOUSE. In fact, the Tisdales were quite the busy delivery committee to Eastern Nebraska Veterans' Home as well! Joanie Welsh reports that we have 10 Buddy Baskets filled and "warehoused" at VICTORY APARTMENTS anticipating the advent of colder weather bringing more of our homeless veterans off the streets.
Our Eastern Nebraska Veterans' Home Holiday Tree this year is requesting $20 gift cards instead of items of clothing. Gift Cards are never the wrong size as sweats etc. often are! The newest of news: in our recent drawings, Caleb Reed won the leather jacket, Patty Wiese won the quilt, and the baskets at our Bake Sale were well received. Caleb and Patty want you to know that the secret to their success was buying many, many, many chances for the item that catches your eye!!
The Auxiliary received a wonderful suprise early in December when we were notified that Auxiliary Past President Beverly Harrall remembered our auxiliary in her will. We are conferring with her children on how the funds could be best used . Stay tuned! And isn't that a wonderful idea to remember the Legion and the other hard-working groups at our Post in our wills!?
